U.S. Mint: 2016 Fort Moultrie National Park Coin Design Candidates

Michael White from the United States Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications forwarded to CoinWeek the following design candidates for the 2016 Fort Moultrie America the Beautiful National Parks Quarter.

Sullivan’s Island and Fort Moultrie, named after Revolutionary War Colonel William Moultrie, has served in our national defense since our country’s founding in 1776. Then, it protected the city of Charleston, South Carolina from British occupation. The island was also site of the important Battle of Fort Sumter.

Today it’s a designated National Park that preserves our national history and heritage. In 2016, Fort Moultrie will be honored with the release of a circulating commemorative quarter.

Seven finalist designs were considered when the CCAC made their recommendations earlier this month.
