Description

The Lemon Shark (Negaprion brevirostris) is a species of large and powerful shark, often found in the shallows of subtropical waters. First named and described in 1868, lemon sharks are not thought to be a large threat to humans despite their often fierce look. The shark’s yellow coloring serves as perfect camouflage when swimming over the sandy sea floor in its coastal habitat. Lemon sharks feed at night and their diet consists mainly of fish and some crustaceans.

They are basically loners but sometimes form small groups. Lemon sharks have magnetic sensors in their noses that allow them to locate prey and potential mates. They depend on this sense because they have very poor eyesight, and without their sensors they would have a hard time surviving.

Design

The design on the coin depicts a lemon shark surround by a scattered shoal of fish. The obverse of the coin features a new effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, created exclusively by the Pobjoy Mint (the Mint’s initial’s are found beneath the Queen’s portrait).

The coins have been produced in Yellow Titanium and are shipped encapsulated in an acrylic capsule for protection and housed in a stunning red box with a certificate of authenticity.

Titanium is exceptionally difficult to strike and we promote each individual coin as being unique as. Because they are so difficult to strike, and also due to the way the colored metal reacts when striking, no Titanium coin is exactly the same. There is also a “lined” effect present on the coins that is unique to Titanium metal.

Uncirculated Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver versions are available. The Cupro Nickel coin is shipped in a unique Pobjoy Mint blue presentation pouch while the Proof Silver coin is shipped the same as the Titanium version.
