In 1999, the Bavarian State Mint, known locally as Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint, first manufactured Gold and Silver Elephant coins in the African Wildlife series under the legend of Zambia. As with many popular world coin series, the reverse design changes each year. The 2018 coins feature a close-up view of an adult elephant with its trunk reaching toward the edge of the coin. In the background are two birds in flight and a leafless tree.
