The historic obverse design is based on Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar, making the Silver American Eagle a favorite by many.
The Gold American Eagle holds perhaps even more history, with the original design first appearing on American Gold coins more than 110 years ago. The obverse is adapted from Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Double Eagle design of 1907 featuring Lady Liberty carrying a torch and olive branch. The 2018 Gold American Eagles are available to pre-order in sizes ranging from 1/10 oz – 1 oz.
