ANA School of Numismatics Offers Seminars in Florida and Georgia

The American Numismatic Association’s (ANA) School of Numismatics is offering a pair of educational courses–“Coin Grading, Problem Coins and Conservation” and “Numismatics of Colonial America”–prior to the Orlando National Money Show® (NMS), Mar. 7-8. The coin and money show begins March 9 at the Orange County Convention Center, located at 9800 International Drive. Register for the two-day seminars by February 3 for a $20 early enrollment discount; take another $40 off if you’re an ANA life member.

Coin Grading, Problem Coins and Conservation

This two-day seminar will help students avoid costly mistakes by developing their grading skills and teaching them to spot a wide variety of surface problems, enhancements, alterations and conservation issues that can adversely affect a coin’s grade.

  • Instructor: Brian Silliman, professional numismatist, Brian Silliman Rare Coins; and former grader/authenticator Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and ANA Authentication Bureau
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Mar. 7-8)
  • Cost: $259 for ANA members/$359 for non-members

Numismatics of Colonial America

Discover the intricacies of the early history of the nation through this hands-on seminar. Students will be introduced to corollary fields, period contexts, archaeological precedents, and much more.

  • Instructor: Erik Goldstein, Curator of Mechanical Arts & Numismatics at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Mar. 7-8)
  • Cost: $259 for ANA members/$359 for non-members

GNA Coin Show

For those who are unable to attend the ANA’s pre-convention seminars in Orlando, an additional grading workshop–“Fundamentals of Grading U.S. Coins”–is available to collectors prior to the Georgia Numismatic Association (GNA) Coin Show, April 19-20. The coin show begins April 21 at the Dalton Convention Center, located at 2211 Dug Gap Battle Road. Register for the two-day seminar by March 15 for a $20 early enrollment discount; take another $40 off if you’re an ANA life member.

Fundamentals of Grading U.S. Coins

Sharpen your grading skills with this educational course. Knowledge of coin grading not only makes you more confident on the bourse floor, but also adds to your enjoyment of the hobby by helping take the worry out of numismatic purchases. Learn how U.S. coins should be graded according to the latest ANA and market standards.

  • Instructors: Rod Gillis, ANA education director; and Bill Fivaz, co-author of The Cherrypicker’s Guide to Rare Coin Varieties
