The auction will be held Tuesday May 16th, 2017 by Archives International Auctions
The May auction will feature additional selections from the American Banknote Company Archives with many rare scripophily items having never crossed the auction block previously. Included will be an attractive and desirable assortment of scripophily, the collecting of stocks and bonds, as well as worldwide banknotes and historic ephemera on May 16 by Archives International Auctions (AIA), at 1580 Lemoine Avenue in Fort Lee, New Jersey at 10:30 A.M. local time.
The auction will be packed with over 1190 lots of rare and highly collectible Stocks, Bonds, Worldwide Banknotes, Ephemera and Security Printing Ephemera. The auction begins with 84 lots of U.S. & Worldwide Historic Ephemera including political, sports and western ephemera, documents, autographs, worldwide banknotes and security printing ephemera.
The scripophily section, a majority from the American Bank Note Company Archives, will include over 1000 different stocks and bonds beginning with 45 desirable examples of automobile and aviation certificates; Banking & Finance follows with 86 different certificates offered; A group of Federal Banking related specimens from the Federal Home Loan Credit Bank and related agencies are offered for the first time; additional topics include brewery and alcohol related certificates, mining, railroads, utilities, navigation, sports, and many other topics. Foreign bonds and shares feature over 150 different issued and specimen stocks and bonds including examples from Canada, France, Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, China, Israel, Ecuador, Columbia and many other countries. Railroads are represented by close to 350 different examples, mostly specimen stocks and bonds, but issued examples are included.

It is one of the largest scripophily offerings to occur in the U.S. in a number of years. Highlights from the sale include a 1904 American-La France Fire Engine Company Specimen Bond with only three found in the ABN Archives; A rare Boeing Airplane Company, 1958 Specimen Bond; Wineries are represented by a Robert Mondavi, Corp. Specimen stock certificate from the well-known Napa Valley wine maker; Canada is represented by railroads and City Specimen Bonds; 13 examples of Israel bond specimens are offered; Computers and technology include specimen stocks from Apple Computer Co., Cisco, Oracle, and many others; United States Steel is represented by 2 historic specimen bonds including a 1901 dated $1000 bond from the year the company was formed and a 1903 bond, both extremely rare and historic; a historic 1854, American Porcelain Manufacturing Company issued stock certificate is offered with an impressive vignette of the companies porcelain designs and products and is possibly unique; an impressive 1902, International Mercantile Marine Co., Specimen Bond is offered being one of only three found in the ABN archives, the company founded by J. P Morgan to monopolize the shipping industry, also owned the Titanic, the flagship of its fleet which sank on its maiden voyage. The sale ends with a group of English and Canadian Tobacco cards, ca. 1900 to 1930, representing many different topics, from aviation to shipping to railroads and sports figure, mostly in complete sets and in excellent condition.
