This is an extra-busy time at Heritage’s World Headquarters, having just completed November’s presentation of the Eric P. Newman Collection Parts VII, VIII, and IX (currency and U.S. Coins), plus our traditional November Signature event. The combined prices realized from these auctions topped $16.5 million, with the Eric P. Newman coin and currency lots representing more than $6.5 million of the impressive total.
Now, we are back in Dallas for a December auction (also held here at our headquarters located at 3500 Maple Avenue). Collectors and dealers alike will find this auction the perfect opportunity to adjust their holdings prior to year-end, and to prepare for January’s upcoming FUN show.
Session 1 is the Premier Session, scheduled for Thursday evening (December 7) at 6:00 PM CT, with 400 high-value lots that represent a cross section of federal coinage. On Friday afternoon, Session 2 features Colonials through dollars, while the Friday evening Session 3 includes gold coinage, patterns, and commemoratives. Our popular Signature® Internet Session follows on Sunday, December 10.
Here are just a few highlights of what promises to be an active and interesting auction, headlined by a pair of exceptional high-grade dimes:
- 1805 Draped Bust dime, MS66+ PCGS CAC, vibrantly lustrous JR-2 variety; few are finer
- 1858-S Seated dime, MS66 NGC, one of the top three specimens known of this key San Francisco date, Fortin-101, high R.7 in Premium Gem condition
- An 1848 Original half cent, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS CAC. The former Garrett Specimen, B-1 variety, a Condition Census coin with generous amounts of mint red, most recently Ex: The Missouri Cabinet
- 1878 three dollar gold, MS67+ PCGS. Although a readily available date in the series, it is very rare in this high-end Superb Gem grade — an “eyeful” with scintillating color and luster, an extraordinary type coin
- A rare 1842-C Small Date half eagle, AU58 NGC, as an issue called “the rarest collectible coin from Charlotte” by Doug Winter, with great color in near-Mint State condition
- 1852/1 Humbert twenty dollar gold piece, AU58 NGC, Kagin-9 variety, the first Assay Office twenty. Rare (R.6) Territorial gold type
- 1854 Kellogg twenty, AU58 NGC CAC, Kagin-2 variety, with outstanding original color
