There are only very few dynasties whose offspring are still ruling today. The House of Welfs is one of them. Members of this house served as the Duke of Bavaria, the Duke of Saxony and the Duke of Brunswick. Since George I, the British monarch has been from the House of Welf. Elizabeth II is a descendant, too, although the ruling dynasty started to call itself Saxe-Coburg and Gotha after the death of Victoria and renamed itself Windsor after 1917. Today, Ernst August von Hannover, spouse of Princess Caroline of Monaco, is the supreme head of the House of Welf.
The collector Friedrich Popken concentrated on the duchies of Brunswick. In Auction 308 you will find 461 coins and medals from his collection, all of which are in prefect grade and of great historical interest.
