Heritage: Coins of Asia Offered in December Hong Kong Auction

Heritage Auctions - Hong Kong - Asia Auction

It is with much pride and excitement that we present our December 6-7 2018 Hong Kong Auction of World Coins, an event sure to be the highlight of the Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair. Close to 1,000 numismatic delicacies have been meticulously curated for your enjoyment.

From Imperial China we have a Kuang-hsu era trio that is almost staggering to behold — a circa date 1906 and two circa date 1907 gold Pattern Liang, each of which is in beautiful Mint State condition.

Another sensational offering is a Szechuan Provincial Kuang-hsu 50 Cent piece ND (1901-1908) graded a respectable MS62 by PCGS but with an uncanny pedigree as it hails from two fundamental names in Asian numismatics, Eduard Kann and Irving Goodman.

And from among the astonishing amount of imperial coinage a Hsuan-T’ung silver Specimen Pattern Dollar Year 3 (1911), graded a gratifying SP62+ by PCGS, certainly deserves mention.

1911 China Empire LM-32 Inner Lvs Viened - Asia NumismaticsThe Republic issues offered in this venue are marquee pieces in their own right. One of these is a simply gorgeous and rare gold Yuan Shih-kai 20 Dollars Year 8 (1919) graded MS63 by NGC, an elite piece with only one other example graded a single point higher to date.

We have a wondrous rarity in a Kansu Provincial Sun Yat-sen Dollar Year 17 (1928), an undeniably premium piece which would elevate any collector’s cabinet to a transcendent level.

To further illustrate the breadth of quality offered by China, the superior gold 1995 Proof “Ancient Dragon Boat” 500 Yuan bears a grade of PR69 Ultra Cameo, and is potentially unique with no edge number.

Beyond the sheer scope and impressive nature of Chinese coins there remain ample opportunities to procure premium specimens from around the globe. These treasures include a Japanese Meiji Era Year 39 (1906) aluminum Pattern Sen, the renowned and historically important 1853 “Lotus Dollar” from Taiwan, and one of the finest gatherings of Tibetan and Nepalese denominations we have seen in years.

Attica, Athens TetradrachmAlthough the total number of ancient coin lots in this auction is modest, each coin has been hand-picked as best representing the beauty and artistry of the Greek and Roman world – several lots earning the ‘star’ designation for exceptional eye appeal from NGC, with others grading Mint State or Fine Style. Highlights include an Athens tetradrachm graded MS ★, one of the most iconic and popular of all ancient coins, as well as a tetradrachm of Alexander the Great graded Choice AU ★ and earning the Fine Style designation, the Caligula and Agrippina Senior denarius, and of course the showcase piece of Ptolemaic Egypt, the massive and impressive gold octodrachm of Ptolemy III, graded Choice AU.

The auction event, beginning December 6, will take place both online and live at the Mira Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, and around the world at www.HA.com.
