Bid on US Coin Treasures in Long Beach Heritage Auction

The June 6-9 Long Beach Signature Auction is open for bidding now! Continuing our long association with the Long Beach Coin and Collectibles Expo, this auction boasts over 2500 lots split into four sessions, with the finest lots scheduled to cross the auction block on the evening of Thursday, June 6 at the Long Beach show.

Outstanding gold and copper issues mark the offerings in this auction. A 1797/5 half eagle with the Large Eagle reverse, graded MS61 by PCGS, is one of an estimated 12-16 examples of the BD-7 variety of this date, the only collectible 1797/5 Large Eagle variety.

A 1813 half eagle, graded MS64+ by PCGS and with CAC endorsement, is an outstanding example of a type coin often used to represent the elusive Capped Bust Left half eagle type. While uncirculated examples are sometimes available, Choice and finer coins are difficult to come by and bring outstanding prices whenever offered.

The 1787 Immunis Columbia copper is a mysterious issue whose origins are unclear, but which circulated as money in colonial America. We offer in this auction the single finest certified example at either major grading service, graded MS66 Brown by PCGS, an attractive example certainly bound for an outstanding Colonial collection.

A much more modern copper treasure is the 1909-S VDB cent, the lowest mintage coin in the entire Lincoln Cent series, and a goal for cent collectors of all stripes. While available in most grades for a price, at the MS67 level it becomes truly rare. The spectacular PCGS-graded MS67 Red example in the Long Beach auction is simply unsurpassed in numerical grade at either of the major grading services, and it is sure to be the objective for a knowledgeable Lincoln Cent specialist.

An unusual feature of this auction is The Jack Royse Collection of Hobo Nickels. To our knowledge, nearly all of the nickels in this collection have not appeared at public auction in at least three decades, and perhaps never, with the majority of the carvings by Bert Wiegand and “Bo” Hughes.
