The Philharmonic coins, available in Gold, Silver and Platinum, are recognized around the world for their iconic imagery that depicts the Vienna Philharmonic, perhaps the most-renowned orchestra in the world.
The Gold Philharmonic, the first of the Philharmonic bullion coins, was released in 1989. According to the World Gold Council, it was the best selling Gold coin in 1992, 1995 and 1996.
A Silver version was introduced in 2008 and saw immediate similar success.
Finally, in 2016, the Austrian Mint released a Platinum version that has opened the series up to new investors and collectors.
“Precious Metals collectors and investors in all parts of the world treasure the Austrian Philharmonics,” APMEX COO Mark Yoshimura said. “This series is valued for its classic designs, metal content and, more recently, the fact that it is available in Gold, Silver and Platinum. Very few coin series are produced in all three metals and this provides a wide range of shopping opportunities for our customers.”
The obverse of each Austrian Philharmonic coin depicts the Great Organ of the Golden Hall in Vienna’s concert hall, the Musikverein. The year, metal content and face value are also listed. On the reverse, an array of orchestral instruments is shown, including the cello, harp, violin, Vienna horn and bassoon.
Austrian Philharmonic coins truly have a global reach, for they are as iconic and beautiful as they are popular. Find all 2018 Gold, Silver and Platinum Philharmonics now available to pre-order at APMEX.
