Free events include open house, mint demonstrations, contests and more
The American Numismatic Association is celebrating National Coin Week, April 15-21, with a slate ofactivities at the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum in Colorado Springs.
All children visiting the Money Museum during National Coin Week can take a fun money quiz,search for answers in the museum and win a prize for finishing.
On April 21, the Money Museum will host a free open house to celebrate this year’s National CoinWeek theme, “Change in Money: Cowries to Credit Cards.”
“Where we exchanged cowry shells for goods and services thousands of years ago, today weswipe a plastic card or use PayPal,” said Andy Dickes, ANA National Coin Week coordinator. “Ourmuseum is planning fun and educational activities that celebrate innovations throughout money’sfascinating history.”
The open house will include a live coin-making demonstration from noon-4 p.m. in the museum’sMini-Mint, where staffers will show visitors how coins were made from the 1500s to 1800s. Everyvisitor will take home a special National Coin Week medallette made in the Mini-Mint.
Children ages 14 and under will be able to spin the ANA prize wheel to win a piece of exoticcurrency, coins or other prizes. One lucky visitor’s name will be drawn at 3 p.m. to win 30 seconds inthe Cash Cube to grab all the money they can.
Visitors will get a sneak preview of select items in the Money Museum’s newest exhibit, History ofMoney, which will debut with a wine and cheese reception from 5-7 p.m. April 26.

- noon-4p.m.: Live coin-making demonstrations start every 30 minutes at the Mini-Mint in themuseum’s lower gallery
