John Mercanti has been honored with the David Rittenhouse Award – Celebrate his achievements with signed 2-coin sets!
John Mercanti is a legend in the numismatic community. While boasting dozens of coin designs, Mercanti is best-known for his heraldic eagle design on the reverse of the American Silver Eagle. He also holds the title of the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint! On May 17, Mercanti accepted the David Rittenhouse Award and ModernCoinMart was able to attend the ceremony to show our support.
This award was named after the first Director of the U.S. Mint, who was appointed by George Washington. Barbara Rittenhouse, descendent of David Rittenhouse and current President of the Board of Directors for Historic RittenhouseTown, said: “We reserve this prestigious award for those who have contributed their talents at the highest level to our nation.”
To celebrate, MCM is offering special two-coin sets that have been hand-signed by John Mercanti and Elizabeth Jones. Each set has been certified by NGC to be in PF70 or PF69 condition with the coveted First Releases designation. These sets are available both in the standard white core holders and attractive black core holders. Join us as we celebrate the remarkable contributions of John Mercanti, as well as the fascinating history of numismatics.
Didn’t make it to the event? No problem. MCM was able to give our customers a behind-the-scenes look and it’s all available on our site. Click here to watch!
