Examples from the Bust, Gobrecht, Seated, Trade, Morgan, Peace and Ike Dollar series are all represented in this fabulous collection that was put together over several years by a devout collector. Silver Dollar Highlights include a rare 1839 Gobrecht $1 NGC Proof 64 (J-104), an 1861 Seated $1 MS65 (which we have handled thrice before!), a scarce proof-only 1880 Trade$ PCGS/CAC Proof 66 CAM, a tied for finest known 1896-S $1 NCG MS66, and a superb 1895 $1 NGC Proof 65 Cameo.

There are many other high points, including a choice example of the famous Libertas Americana medal and a wide variety of coins of all shapes and sizes, graded by PCGS, NGC, and many that are CAC-approved! Be sure to browse and bid early before Auction #1021 closes Sunday July 15.

Some of the more interesting pieces from this week’s auction include:

Our first highlight is a 1781 Libertas Americana Medal PCGS AU53 (Bronze, with Box). A beautiful bronzed copper example of this famous medal. With beautiful, lightly circulated smooth surfaces, this famous issue is popular amongst advanced numismatists as one of the base designs for U.S. coinage in the 18th century.

This week’s second highlight coin is an 1861 $1 PCGS MS65. As all serious collectors know, any gem No Motto Seated dollar is a rare find. To date, PCGS has only graded 70 coins this high in the entire series! For the year 1861, PCGS has awarded the grade (or finer) just five times. Why? Because the coins marked up easily and bag marks of any kind are very distracting on the issue. The example we offer here is a true exception to the rule as it exhibits silky-smooth satiny luster over brilliant white surfaces with a very light skin of an original golden hue. The only marks noted are three tiny reed marks between star 6-7 on the obverse and these do not distract. The planchet is extremely lustrous and fresh and also exhibits an overall evidence of die polishing where the mint masters cleaned up the die — probably just prior to striking this beautiful piece. If you are seeking gem Seated material for type or a date set, this extraordinary piece will make the fussiest collector happy.

This week’s third highlight coin is an 1856-C $2 1/2 NGC MS61. This coin has frosty obverse surfaces with nice eye appeal and has an especially well-struck reverse with a with a strong mintmark. This piece comes from a very low mintage Charlotte quarter eagle, just 7,913 coins struck. There are less than five to six pieces graded finer by both services.

Our final highlight is an 1895 $1 NGC Proof 65 CAM, which is an amazingly beautiful key date. The 1895 is generally considered the set-stopping date to a complete Morgan set. Coming from a mintage of only 880 coins and no business strikes issued of this date makes it especially desirable for collectors.

Of course there are many other highlights, so be sure to browse all lots in this exciting new sale before it closes on Sunday, July 15.
