On October 10, 2015, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931), the Mint of Finland has released a limited mintage collector coin. Gallen-Kallela The Finland Gallen-Kallela 2 euro coin has a mintage of 489,000 uncirculated pieces and 11,000 proofs. Gallen-Kallela’s career spanned more than 50 years. His style moved effortlessly from realism to the symbolic.
Issue price for the proof version is 24,00 € (with VAT). The uncirculated version will be distributed through Finnish banks, but can be ordered from the Mint of Finland in bag and roll quantities.
A swan atop a placid body of water. Beneath, gentle ripples of water in the form of rightward waving lines. Wrapping around the outside of the coin’s inner ring, beneath the water line, is the inscription AKSELI GALLEN KALLELA. Between GALLEN and KALLELA is an artist’s palette, on which the dual date 1865-2015 is inscribed. The initials “FI” (Finland) are located to the right of the swan, adjacent to the third star. The logo of the Mint of Finland is located to the left of the word KALLELA.
Type 1: To the right, Six horizontal line segments containing stars at each end. Individualized representations of the 12 original Eurozone states, centered and dividing the stripes. Large numeral “2”, centered on the left, to the right: the inscription EURO, all italicized. Underneath the EURO is a representation of the continent of Europe. The designer’s initials “LL” appear below the O on the outer nickel-brass outer ring. Design encircled by a raised rim.
