Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Opal Lunar Series – Year of the Pig 2019 1oz Silver Proof Coin.
The coin’s reverse incorporates an inner panel design of a pig detailed in pure Australian opal. The outer panel of the coin includes intricate patterning with depictions of stylised flowers, grapes and other foliage. The design also includes the inscription YEAR OF THE PIG, the Chinese character for ‘pig’, the 2019 year-date, the weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
Designer and engraver Jody Clark joined the Royal Mint in 2012. His portrait of Queen Elizabeth II became the fifth official portrait in 2015 (View Designer’s Profile).
Since 2008, Perth Mint artist Aleysha Howarth has infused her personal sense of style and a love for nature into her coin designs. Alicia earned a degree in Graphic Design from the Central TAFE School of Art and Design. Her innovative colorized ballet coin series of 2011 earned her international acclaim. She was also the lead designer of the Perth Mint’s Opal coin series.
