Numismatic News editor Dave Harper has just returned from a trip to the Beijing International Coin Exposition, one of the world’s fastest growing coin shows.
In his column, Dave calls the show a “Trade Show”, which sparks discussion with CoinWeek editor Charles Morgan, who, after attending this year’s World Money Fair in Berlin, thinks that the trade show element is just what the American coin show scene needs to transform the hobby into something new and vital.
The two also discuss some of Charles’ takeaways from the U.S. Mint forum.

So sad, what a dumb, ignorant podcast: “world coins are a minority pursuit”, “there’s no critical mass”. It is boomers like this who don’t understand the market that are actually taken advantage of by so-called “world” collectors, who buy things for hilariously low prices and then immediately re-sell them. There are more than 2 countries on this globe, not just “US” and “World”. Getting past that basic hurdle is a challenge it seems in the US.
Of course no one gives a crap about modern international mints visiting US shows, because who bothers buying some junk tuvalu platinum enammeled ms70 20 dollar silver round? People want beautiful historical items for their collections.
