Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission Plans Exhibit

When the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo gets underway here, March 22-25, a special commemorative exhibit and the inaugural Baltimore Rarities Night Auction will be among the highlights.

Through special arrangement with the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, the Expo will include an exhibit of Commemorative Star-Spangled Banner coins, proof and uncirculated, silver and gold. The Commission will also present a special educational presentation on Francis Scott Key’s immortal anthem and the Battle of Baltimore. Stack’s Bowers Galleries will make history of its own at the spring Expo, with a special event in numismatics: the inaugural Baltimore Rarities Night Auction, featuring a limited number of elite numismatic collectibles chosen under the strictest criteria.

The Official Baltimore Auction, remarkable in its own right, features items from The Samuel J. Berngard Collection, The Demarete Collection and Gouri Gupta’s Morgan Dollar Collection, among many other fine examples. Dealer setup will take place on Thursday, March 22 from 8am until Noon. The Expo will open to the public at Noon on Thursday and at 10am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Early Birds will be admitted at 10am on Thursday and 9am all other days.

Retired Bureau of Engraving and Printing plate printer Mike Bean will demonstrations of the Spider printing press. A free limited edition intaglio printed souvenir card will be available by drawing. Each card will be numbered, dated, and signed by Mr. Bean. Stop by booth #1536 to see a demonstration and enter the drawing for one of the souvenir cards.
