The American Numismatic Association (ANA) School of Numismatics will be offering a two-day course on detecting counterfeit and altered coins January 6 and 7, in association with the upcoming Florida United Numismatists (FUN) show in Orlando.

Brian Silliman, Senior Numismatist at Panda America based in Torrance, California and writer of the former “Counterfeit Detection” column in the ANA’s monthly magazine The Numismatist, will be the instructor. Mr. Silliman’s experience also includes a position as an authenticator and grader at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and a conservator with Numismatic Conservation Services (NCS). Before that, Silliman worked for the ANA Authentication Bureau (ANAAB).

The course will cover United States coinage of all types and denominations, and examples of counterfeits will be available for everyone to hold and examine.

This event will take place from 9 am to 5 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 6 and 7, 2015, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. For reservations, please call (407) 833-8938, extension 101.

Registration for the course costs $248 for ANA and FUN members, $208 for ANA Life Members, and $348 for non-members. If you’re not already a member of the ANA (or FUN) and are interested in attending the course, it’s not too late to become a member or renew your expired membership. ANA membership packages range in price from $14 to $46, so course registration and membership together will save you money.
