Krause Publications Releases State Quarters 50 State Interactive Educational Map

IOLA, Wis. (March 19, 2012) — Krause Publications, a leading producer of books, magazines, events and online products for coin and paper money collectors, has released an educational iPad app that uses state quarters to teach children about the 50 U.S. states.

“The state quarter program from the U.S. Mint is arguably the most successful in the history of numismatics, with over 100 million people collecting the coins,” said Scott Tappa, publisher of Krause Publications’ numismatics group. “With this app, children can use these popular coins to learn about geography, history, state capitals, birds and flowers, and more. It can be used by parents, educators, after-school programs and others as a fun educational exercise.”

App users view images of all 50 state quarters, and are prompted to drag them to the correct state on a U.S. map. When done successfully, the user is then presented with a 360-degree rotating image of the quarter and a variety of state facts.  Users can store their favorite state quarters in a virtual album and challenge themselves with a variety of state trivia quizzes.

“We are really excited about this app, as it opens up coin collecting to a young audience,” said Tappa. “My seven-year-old son, who is well-acquainted with iPad apps and games, really enjoyed using a beta version of the app, spinning the coins and challenging himself with the quizzes.”

While this is the first true app released by KP, Tappa noted that the group has many products available for use with mobile devices.

“Our CD products, which draw from our best-selling book catalog line, are easy to upload to iTunes and synch to an iPad,” Tappa said. “We have started to see collectors and dealers using our Standard Catalog of World Coins products on tablets at shows. In addition, the online price guide at NumisMaster.com is usable with any device’s web browser.”
