Long Beach Expo Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Free Admission Coupons

The Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo is marking its 50th anniversary in 2014.  To celebrate the milestone, the public can get free admission coupons to the upcoming show, January 30 – February 1, 2014, by entering a special promotional code on the show’s website, http://www.LongBeachExpo.com.

The show will be held in the Long Beach, California Convention Center, 100 S. Pine Ave.

“The Long Beach Expo certainly has expanded its scope, size and its name since the first show in 1964.  We now incorporate coins, paper money, stamps and sports memorabilia in the name to reflect the wide diversity of collectibles that are bought and sold at each show,” said Cassi East, Expo President.

Admission to the show is $8 for adults, $4 for seniors and children aged 8 to 16.  However, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration, anyone can get a free admission coupon online for the upcoming show.

“Simply go to our website, www.LongBeachExpo.com, click ‘Get Passes,’ and enter the special Promo Code, PR214, and print out the coupon to present at the show’s registration desk,” explained East.

There will be educational seminars and club meetings during the show, and special coin and stamp collecting activities for children on Saturday.  More than 500 dealers will be buying and selling coins, paper money, stamps, postcards, sports memorabilia, historical documents, estate jewelry and other collectibles.

“Attend the show and bring your items to sell!,” said East.

The Long Beach show was founded in 1964 by Ray Lundgren and “Trader Sam” Frudakis.

About 20 years later they sold the show to Sam Lopresto who operated it until 1992 when he sold it to Ron Gillio and Paul Kopenhaver who subsequently organized the show under the corporate name, Expos Unlimited.  In 1995, Koppenhaver sold his share of Expos Unlimited to Gillio.  Gillio continued to operate the three-times-a-year show until he sold it in 2006 to Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT), the show’s current owner and corporate parent of Professional Coin Grading Service and Professional Sports Authenticator.
