First 2017 ATB Quarter, Platinum Eagle Bullion Coin Among Upcoming U.S. Mint Products

By Hubert Walker for CoinWeek ….
The United States Mint recently added several new products to their online schedule for the month of February.

First up are rolls and bags for the 2017 Effigy Mounds National Monument America the Beautiful quarter. These Mint products–representing the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints–will be available for order on February 6. Established as a National Monument in 1949, Effigy Mounds represents Iowa in the America the Beautiful program and is the first of the five ATB quarters for 2017. It is the 36th coin in the overall series.

Next up is the America the Beautiful Quarters 2017 Silver Proof Set. The ATB Silver Proof Set contains one Proof-quality 90% silver coin for each of the five quarters to be released this year under the auspices of the America the Beautiful Quarters program. This includes the Effigy Mounds National Monument quarter (Iowa), the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site quarter (Washington, D.C.), the Ozark National Scenic Riverways quarter (Missouri), the Ellis Island (Statue of Liberty National Monument) quarter (New Jersey), and the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park quarter (Indiana). America the Beautiful Silver Proof Sets go on sale February 16.

200-coin bags, as well as two-roll sets, of the 2017 Kennedy Half Dollar will be available for order starting February 22. Bags and rolls will be filled at both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints. Since 2002, Kennedy half dollars have been produced for collectors only, and not for general circulation.

And on February 27, Effigy Mounds National Monument quarter three-coin sets will be issued. These sets include one Uncirculated quarter from Philadelphia, one Uncirculated coin from Denver, and a Proof specimen from San Francisco.

As for the remainder of the Mint’s schedule for January, the 2017 American Eagle Platinum Bullion Coin becomes available to Authorized Purchasers on January 23. They will be issued on an allocated basis. Both the allocation process and the network of Authorized Purchasers help the U.S. Mint meet demand and support the market for sales of its bullion products.

25-coin rolls, 100-coin bags and 250-coin boxes of the 2017 Native American $1 coin become available on January 25. Every year the coin features a new reverse design, and this year’s Native American dollar honors Sequoyah, the inventor of the Cherokee language writing system. The obverse, which features Glenna Goodacre’s portrait of Shoshone guide Sacagawea and her child, has remained the same since the first year of issue in 2000. legendary athlete Jim Thorpe will be commemorated on the 2018 dollar coin, and earlier this week the CCAC discussed design concepts for the 2019 and 2020 coins.
