By The Royal Mint….
Following the unveiling of the new coinage portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, The Royal Mint has released the definitive fifth portrait first edition and combined ‘first and last’ edition annual sets, continuing the celebration of what is recognized as a vintage year for UK coins.
The Fifth Definitive Coinage Portrait First Edition Set
This is the first edition of The Royal Mint’s definitive coin set featuring the fifth definitive coinage portrait of The Queen designed by Jody Clark – the first time in more than 100 years that the United Kingdom definitive coinage portrait has been designed by a Royal Mint engraver.
The fifth definitive portrait is featured on the obverse of each of the Matthew Dent definitive United Kingdom coins in this collection, from the 1p to the £1. The £2 in this collection bears the new reverse design by Antony Dufort that heralds the return of Britannia, the female personification of the nation, to the United Kingdom’s circulating coinage.
The collection is available in four limited editions – precious metal 22 carat Gold Proof (500 sets), 925 sterling Silver Proof (7,500 sets), as well as Proof (15,000 sets) and Brilliant Uncirculated (75,000) base metal editions.
Each set is accompanied by a booklet revealing a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse into the minting of a new portrait, and a certificate of authenticity.
The Fourth and Fifth Definitive Coinage Portrait Set
This important collection of coinage ‘lasts’ and ‘firsts’ brings together two entire sets of the definitive coins of the United Kingdom, from the 1p to the £2. The ‘last editions’ are adorned with the familiar fourth definitive portrait of Her Majesty on the obverse, while the ‘first editions’ bear Jody Clark’s new effigy. The last edition set features the Bruce Rushin £2 coin, whilst the first edition set includes the new £2 – with a new reverse design by Antony Dufort that heralds the welcome return of Britannia to the UK’s circulating coinage.
The collection is available in five limited editions – precious metal Platinum Proof (100 sets), 22 carat Gold Proof (500 sets), 925 sterling Silver Proof (7,500 sets), as well as Proof (15,000 sets) and Brilliant Uncirculated (75,000) base metal editions.
Each set comes complete with an accompanying booklet that shares the process of introducing a new portrait, revisits all four previous portraits and reveals The Royal Mint’s special links with Her Majesty The Queen.
