New Zealand Mint Strikes Precious Metal Disney Princess Coins

cinderellacoinNew Zealand Mint is celebrating fairy-tale film classics with the release of a new Disney Princess coin program, for which The Perth Mint is the sole distributor in Australia.

The inaugural coins in the series feature the ever courageous Cinderella and are struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and 1/4oz of 99.99% pure gold.

Both coins feature an iconic image of Cinderella surrounded by delicate flowers. The inscription Disney Cinderella completes the design, with the weight and fineness of the coin also appearing on each reverse.

In the classic fairy tale Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre by Charles Perrault, Cinderella escapes mistreatment by her stepmother and stepsisters to find true love with her Prince.

It is said that Walt Disney regarded the transformation of Cinderella’s torn dress into a shimmering gown fit for a Disney Princess as his favourite piece of animation.

Receiving three ACADEMY AWARD® nominations for Best Music, Best Song (Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo) and Best Sound Recording, Cinderella was one of the highest grossing feature films of 1950.

“The story of Cinderella is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated of all Disney classics and has enchanted generations of children and adults alike.  At The Perth Mint, we are delighted to bring these stunning Disney Princess coins to fans across the country,” said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie.

Scheduled to be unveiled throughout the next 12 months, future releases will showcase various Disney Princess characters.
