The NZ Mint is excited to launch the fourth coin in our impressive coin collection, Battles That Changed History – which highlights legendary battles that changed the course of history. The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October, 1066 and began the Norman conquest of England led by William, the Duke of Normandy – later known as William the Conqueror.
The Battle of Hastings 1oz Silver Coin features a coloured illustration of the leader of the victorious invading Norman army, William the Conqueror. He stands against an antique, engraved background featuring infantry and cavalry engaged in battle.
This coin cleverly combines colour and engraving, with an antique-finish, and comes presented in a complementary antique-looking timber box. Inside the coin is nestled in the black velvet interior with the uniquely numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The themed outer box features a black line art illustration of the battle imposed over an antiqued paper texture.
