With the January New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) auction right around the corner, we wanted to take time to highlight a few special United Arab Emirates banknotes.
Lot 30447 contains a very special group of scarce TDLR first issue, high-grade United Arab Emirates Specimens: Pick 1s (PMG 64), Pick 4s (PMG 55), and Pick 2s, 3s, and 5s (PMG 63). PMG comments ‘Staple Holes’ on the reverse side of each holder, but that is typical for this set as they were often stapled at TDLR. Otherwise, these notes are vibrant, and free of other distractions.
The following lot, Lot 30448 contains the highest denomination of this first issue series, offered separately from the other denominations. This note, the 1,000 Dirhams, is the finest we have offered for the type and is extremely difficult to find in any form, specimen or issued. Issued examples are mostly heavily circulated. The PMG population report shows only two finer examples. Additionally, this note displays the TDLR stamps as opposed to most of the other pieces offered in prior auctions that were absent those stamps. Pinholes are mentioned in the comments section and likely occurred while in the possession of the TDLR printing company.
