Ukraine Issues 100 Karbovanetsiv Commemorative Note Honoring 1st Ukrainian Banknote

Ukraine 100 Ruble Banknote

By National Bank of Ukraine ……
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921 and the first Ukrainian paper money, the National Bank of Ukraine is set to issue a souvenir bill entitled `One Hundred Karbovanetsiv’, which reproduces the design of the first Ukrainian banknote – a national credit card denomination of 100 Karbovanetsiv (designer – Georgy Narbut). The image on this banknote of the trident was one of the main factors in the establishment of the Grand Duke Volodymyr the Great as the State Emblem of the UPR and almost two months ahead of the relevant law of the Central Council on the State Emblem.

During the manufacture of a souvenir note, special security paper is used, which consists of flax fibers up to 85% and cotton cellulose. The paper banknote contains a local watermark in the form of a trident, the middle tooth crowned with a cross.

The main image of the front side of  the Ukraine souvenir note is a stylized 1917 national credit card with a face value of 100 Karbovanetsiv, to the left of which the inscriptions: UKRAINE (above), to the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 – 1921; Above the inscription on the left is a trident, a historical symbol that is located on a 1917 credit card.

The main image of the reverse side of the souvenir note is a stylized 1917 national credit card with a face value of 100 Karbovanetsiv (the reverse side), on the right of which are the inscriptions: UKRAINE (above), the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 – 1921 and 100 / ROCKS.

The designers of the commemorative banknote are Taran Volodymyr, Kharuk Alexander, and Haruk Sergey. The notes will be available starting December 29, 2018.

At the time of publication, one Ukrainian Hryvnia (₴1 or UAH 1) trades for approx. $0.04 USD.
