The obverse features an effigy of Elizabeth II, as well as the Queen’s name, the title of the issuing nation, and the year of issue.
The reverse depicts Archangel Michael slaying the dragon. Also engraved are the inscription ANGEL as well as material, fine content and weight.
“The dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven”
Thus recounts the New Testament on the fight between the powers of Heaven and Hell. Friends of numismatics will recognize the image of the victor, Archangel Michael, as an established coin motif from the “angels”, the British gold coins worth six shillings and eight pence that King Edward IV introduced to England in 1465 to replace the noble.
A good 550 years later, the honored motif shines with new splendor. “1 Angel Piedfort” is the first commemorative coin presented by Coin Invest Trust for the Isle of Man. Since April 2017, its coins have been minted by the Tower Mint, whose owner designed the piedfort’s reverse. For the “1 Angel Piedfort”, Raphael Maklouf drew on historical images. But it isn’t just the theme; the piedfort’s technical dimensions have a long-standing tradition, as well. Made of two ounces fine silver, the coin has a standard diameter of 38.6 mm but is twice as thick as normal coins. Piedforts date back to medieval France and England.
The “1 Angel Piedfort” is certain to find admirers beyond France and England. Thanks to smartminting©, Archangel Michael and his biblical adversaries come to live from the proof-like coin field. The effigy of Elizabeth II on the obverse is impressive not only due to its wealth of detail and sharp contours. The “1 Angel Piedfort” is the first coin by CIT that features the new portrait by Jody Clark. His creation replaces the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait, which in turn succeeded that by Raphael Maklouf.

The obverse features the official coat of arms of the issuing nation Palau below an outrigger canoe with canoeist. Also, the name of the issuing nation and the nominal value, completed by year of issue and fine content in the silver edition.
In the silver edition, the high-relief reverse of the skull-shaped coin is a three-dimensional rendition of a skull.
Not only on Halloween are skulls eye-catchers. In Ancient Rome, representations of skulls and skeletons were a reminder for man to enjoy life while it lasted. In Christian culture, too, the skull symbolizes the ephemerality of life on earth, compared to everlasting religion. Today, skulls adorn school bags with pirate motifs and numerous fashionable accessories.
The numismatic realization of the skulls remains the privilege of CIT. For the Republic of Palau, CIT presents the successors to 2016’s sensational “Skull No1”. Three new coins powerfully demonstrate the astonishing effects created by combining an unusual theme with the latest technology in coin minting.
“Big Skull” depicts a skull in all its glory and detail on spectacular 80 x 52 mm canvas and, thanks to smartminting©, catches the onlookers eye, holding him enthralled with its incredible plasticity. Made from a half kilogram of 999 silver, Big Skull 2017 more than doubles its predecessor’s size.
Not quite as large, but at least as impressive is “Pirate Skull”. The 1 oz 999 silver coin features a grim-looking pirate in proper style, complete with earring and bandana.
“Golden Skull” completes the trio. 13.92 mm is all it takes to bring out the advantages of BigGoldMinting©. The skull with the incomplete set of teeth, the cross-bones, each tiny little detail is rendered exceptionally sharp.
