Palau. 5 Dollars. 2018. Silver .999. 1 oz. Antique Finish. 33 mm. Mintage: 2,500 pcs. B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt, Munich.
The heart-shaped blank shows a slightly incused pattern of tendrils, in the middle a stamp-like incuse with the coat of arms of Palau; above, REPUBLIC OF PALAU / 5 $,and in the field below, 2018. The reverse is covered with a complicated pattern of tendrils throughout.
It is the simplest shape in the world – and at the same time incredibly difficult to mint: A fully shaped heart. Up to now, minted miniature sculptures like the Shakyamuni Buddha or the Emperor Penguin only featured a high relief on one side, while the reverse was kept flat.
With Silver Heart, the relief now conquers both sides.
This is made possible with smartminting© technology. Just how far that has developed shows in the combination of the highest relief with a minimally incused decorative tendril pattern. An incredible minting-technological challenge!
The surface has been treated with a so-called antique finish, a surface treatment that has proven extremely popular since the 19th century, which makes even the finest details of the coin stand out more plastically.
