The late Imperial Era rarities will be displayed in Hong Kong in March before being sold in April
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation™ (NGC®) is pleased to announce that it has authenticated and graded a major collection of vintage Chinese coins. Dubbed the Cherrywood Collection, the group of rare coins, including bronze and silver patterns, was housed in a small cherrywood box and has not been seen in the marketplace in over a century.
The highlights include a Year 3 (1911) Long-Whiskered Dragon Silver Dollar Pattern, L&M 29, graded NGC SP 64, and a Year 3 (1911) Large-Tailed Dragon Silver Dollar Pattern, L&M 33, graded NGC PF 65.
The NGC PF 65 Large-Tailed Dragon Pattern is the first example of this variety to appear in any major auction in over 10 years and it is the finest certified by a full two grading points. The coin exhibits attractive original toning from the small manila envelopes that housed the coins for the past 100 years.
The L&M 29 Long-Whiskered Dragon Pattern is another important member of the Flying Dragon Dollar pattern series and only seven coins have been graded in all grades. The example recently graded NGC SP 64 ranks among the finest known.
The 26 coins in the Cherrywood Collection have all been certified by NGC and are being offered without reserve by Great Collections at greatcollections.com. The coins are currently open for bidding with auctions ending on April 14 and 21, 2019. Aside from the two Dragon patterns mentioned above, there are many other bronze and silver patterns issued between 1906 and 1911 that are included in the collection.
Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman and Grading Finalizer, personally viewed the highlights and commented: “The Cherrywood Collection is a truly outstanding group of rare and high-grade vintage Chinese coins. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to grade such a special collection.”
Ian Russell, Owner/President of GreatCollections, had this to say about the group:
“This collection is one of the most important discoveries in Chinese numismatics over the past decade, and we are excited to offer it in our auctions. Aside from the immense rarity, I particularly love the originality of these coins. All have a similar look to them from the small envelopes they were stored in for the last 100 years.”
A special brochure has been prepared for this collection and is available by request. Please telephone 1-800-442-6467 (+1-949-679-4180) or e-mail email@example.com.
GreatCollections will be attending the Hong Kong Coin Show to be held at the Mira Hotel in Kowloon on March 29-31, 2019 and will have all coins from the Cherrywood Collection on display at table B21.
