250 Years of the National Press

On May 22, Central Bank of Portugal (Banco de Portugal) issued a new €2 circulating world coin commemorative honoring “250 Years of the National Press”. Distribution to the public is being made through the bank’s credit and treasury institutions.
The coin features:
On the common side:
- The European design used in circulation euro coins.
On the national side, and involved by the 12 stars of the European Union, the following elements:
- The date “1768-2018”;
- The inscriptions “National Press”, “Two Hundred and Fifty”, “250 Years”, “Portugal” and “MMXVIII”;
- On the lower border, the author’s name and the legend “INCM”.
The specifications of this coin were approved by Administrative Rule no. 69/2018, published in the Diário da República, 1st series – N.º 48, of March 8. The emission limit of 500,000 coins with a normal finish has been set.

Koerich Castle Silver Niobium Coin, Ettelbruck Uncirculated Set From Bank of Luxembourg

On the occasion of “Institutional Open Day”, the Central Bank of Luxembourg (Banque centrale du Luxembourg, or BCL) released the following numismatic products on Saturday, April 21, 2018:
The silver-niobium world coin commemorating Koerich Castle is the 10th piece in the series dedicated to Luxembourg castles. The coin is minted to 3,000 pieces by the Austrian Mint in “Proof-like” quality . It has a diameter of 34 mm and a weight of 16.6 g. It is sold at a price of 90 euros.
The Uncirculated set dedicated to the city of Ettelbruck, which has a mintage of 5,000 copies that are numbered individually. The set contains a coin of each denomination dated 2018 in Brilliant Uncirculated finish and a commemorative 2 euro coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Constitution of Luxembourg. The set is sold at a price of 35 euros. The BCL reserves the right to limit the sale to one copy per person.

Silver Coin and Silver Foil Stamp commemorating Valletta, European Capital of Culture 2018

On 22 May 2018 the Central Bank of Malta and MaltaPost will be issuing a joint numismatic product consisting of a silver coin and a silver foil stamp replica to mark Valletta the European Capital of Culture 2018.
The European Capital of Culture programme is a European Union initiative that seeks to highlight the richness and diversity of European cultures and promote a sense of common identity between European citizens. As well as prestige this title is an excellent opportunity for regenerating cities, raising their international profile while, through culture, enhancing them for their own inhabitants and fostering tourism. A European Capital of Culture holds the title for one year. Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is sharing the 2018 title with Leeuwarden-Friesland in the Netherlands.
The world coin, struck at the Royal Dutch Mint, shows the emblem of Malta and the year of issue 2018 on the obverse. On the reverse the coin carries a personification of Valletta, a fortress city, represented as a woman wearing armor.
The silver foil stamp replica and the coin will be available as a set in one presentation case.
The world coin, which can also be purchased on its own, has a face value of €10. It is struck in proof quality in 0.925 silver, has a weight of 28.28 grams and a diameter of 38.61 mm. The mintage is limited to 2,000 coins. The coin was designed and engraved by Noel Galea Bason.
The silver replica stamp was also produced for MaltaPost by the Royal Dutch Mint and depicts the €0.26 postage stamp from the ‘Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture’ stamp issue.
This joint product is available in a presentation case and is limited to 500 sets. Sets and coins may be purchased directly from the Coin Centre’s online e-shop facility or from the main building of the Bank.
