By the Italian Mint ……
Trento is a city where architecture and art, history and nature perfectly blend together, the Buonconsiglio Castle being its greatest and most important monument. The Castle is composed of several buildings from different ages, the oldest being Castelvecchio, while the Torre Aquila is famous for its Cycle of the Months, a wonderful late Medieval fresco representing the flow of the seasons.
A Sterling silver (.925) Proof coin commemorating the city as part of the popular “Italy of Arts” Series was issued on September 18, 2017.
The obverse features a composition of elements drawn from the so-called Castelvecchio or “Old Castle”, the first building of the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento and from Augustus Tower; around, on the left, the inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” and “2017”, the year of the coin’s issue; vertically, on the right, the name of the designer, “PETRASSI”.
On the reverse is a composition of scenes and decorative details drawn from frescoes of the cycle of the months painted by Master Wenceslas of Bohemia and conserved in the Torre Aquila or Eagle Tower of the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento; above, the inscription “ITALIA DELLE ARTI”; in the center, the value “5 EURO”; on the right, the letter “R” identifying the Mint of Rome; in exergue, the inscription “TRENTO”.
