The first Sand Dollar was issued by CIT Coin Invest AG in 2017. The coin from Palau got its name from one of nature’s marvels. In reality, it is the skeleton of a sea urchin. However, as soon as the sun has caused it to fade to a white-silver color, beach visitors may well confuse it with an old Spanish or American silver dollar.
The first coin issued by CIT Coin Invest AG in 2019 – Sand Dollar II – is a technological advancement of the first. The resemblance of the coin, which bears the face value of one dollar, and a real thing is astonishing. The delicate design of the obverse, the uneven rim that becomes thinner towards the edge, the five oval cut-outs, none of this would be possible without the most advanced Smartminting technology. The perfect surface in silk finish makes this coin a worry stone and a miniature sculpture at once. If one compares the two issues, the unbelievable progress in the precision of high-relief minting that has been made in the past two years becomes obvious.
