Spink held a recent two-day sale April 4-5 at their Sheung Wan Galleries in Hong Kong. The sale was well-attended and contained many world-class items, some of which achieved world records.
World Record for Tibetan Coin

The Rhodes Collection of Tibetan Coins, Tibetan and Nepalese Banknotes contained items which have not been seen for many years. It was a compact sale with many items being extremely rare and in superb condition. Lot 82 was a copper 50 srang pattern of which only one is known to be in private hands. Graded PCGS SP45, it fetched a total of HKD$528,000 against an estimate of HKD$120,000 to $150,000.
Set of Tibetan Banknotes Achieve HKD$726,000

Tibetan banknotes were also very popular with the high-end collectors and a set of the first series containing the 5, 10, 15, 25 and 25 tams were sold for an aggregate total of HKD$726,000. The set is unlikely to be matched in quality and will be treasured by their new owners for many years to come.
World Record for Single Vintage Hong Kong Banknote

Spink China has always been strong in selling Hong Kong banknotes and this time is no exception. We offered a Mercantile Bank $50 dated 1924 in original very fine condition and it fetched a staggering sum of HKD$1,140,000. This price is the current price record holder for a single vintage Hong Kong banknote and was so exceptional that it featured on TVB news locally.
We will finish this week with a world class coin show at the Mira Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui where the team will be present on all three days to give free appraisals and take in consignments for our global auctions scheduled all year round. We would like to thank all our clients across the globe for their unwavering support and look forward to seeing you this weekend.
