The Rooster is one of French numismatics most enduring symbols. The France 2015 Rooster 100 Euro Gold Coin features an updated interpretation of the Rooster was designed by longtime Monnaie de Paris engraver Joaquin Jimenez. Jimenez’ design debuted in 2014 and will serve as the French 100-euro gold coin design through 2016.
Obverse: A modern representation of a Rooster. The rooster’s head and shoulders are framed in a circle. MONNAIE DE PARIS in small lettering is visible running up the rooster’s neck. The colors of the French flag are rendered in heraldic tinctures of azure and gules. The inscription, the French motto, reads: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. The coin is dated 2015. Jimenez’ designer mark (a square within a larger square) at the coin’s five o’clock position.
Reverse: A hexagon (France is often referred to as L’Hexagone) surrounds the text RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. In the center of the coin, the denomination EURO 100 is inscribed in italics and is surrounded by an olive branch at the top and an oak branch at the bottom.
