Austrian Mint’s Maria Theresa and Wildlife in Our Sights Programs Take a Bow

Austrian Mint - 2018 Maria Theresa 20 Euro Silver Coin - 2018 Wildlife in Our Sights 100 Euro Gold Coin

Two successful collector coin programs take a final bow…

Empress Maria Theresa – Prudence and Reform

Rounding off the Empress Maria Theresa series, Prudence and Reform, like all the coins in the series, is minted in extra-bold relief and has been inspired by medals issued during the 40-year reign of the Empress.

Based on a work signed by F. Würth F., the coin’s obverse portrays Maria Theresa and her son Joseph II, with whom the monarch shared power after the death of her beloved husband Francis I. Cooperation with her successor proved complicated. Despite the deep affection that mother and son felt for each other, they were so different in their ideology, yet so similar in their hunger for power.

Minted to a maximum of 30,000 pieces in Proof quality only, each superb 20-euro silver coin (925 Ag, 2/3 ounce) from the Maria Theresa Series comes in an attractive case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The wholesale price of the coin is € 41.50 [approx. $52 USD]. Its recommended retail price is € 49.50 [approx. $62 USD]. Both prices exclude VAT (Value Added Tax).

Collector Case

Flanked by the four new interpretations of historic medals in extra-bold relief that make up the four-coin Proof quality Empress Maria Theresa series, the world-famous Maria Theresa Taler takes pride of place in this special three-hundredth-anniversary bilingual collector album.

The Adaptable Dabbler

Of the six animals featured in the Wildlife in our Sights series, the mallard is the only one that most of us are likely to see on a daily basis.

As it is able to thrive in urban areas, the duck is a common sight in parks lakes, rivers and canals throughout Western Europe. But as the final coin in the series shows with brilliant clarity, the mallard’s ubiquity does not make it any less striking.

Considered a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the mallard is a very adaptable species of dabbling duck. With a glossy bottle-green head and a white collar, the breeding male mallard (drake) is unmistakable. The female is predominantly mottled but both birds have distinct iridescent purple-blue feathers edged with white on the back of the wing.

Celebrating the diversity of Europe’s native wildlife and the sustainable management of the natural habitats in which it continues to thrive, Wildlife in our Sights is now drawing to a close.

The series “Wildlife in Our Sights” consists of the following coins in gold:

2013 The Red Deer
2014 The Wild Boar
2015 The Capercaillie
2016 The Fox
2017 The Alpine Ibex
2018 The Mallard

All six of the 100-euro Proof quality coins in the series features a masterful depiction of one of the continent’s most recognizable wild animals in its natural habitat, while the lower part of each coin is exquisitely decorated with an ornate design that gives the series its distinctive character. A swimming mallard drake features on the obverse of this last coin, a mallard family features on its reverse.

This beautifully-finished gold coin goes on sale officially on October 3, 2018.

Struck in 986 fine gold, exclusively in Proof quality with a maximum mintage of 30,000 pieces, each coin comes in an attractive box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The wholesale price of the coin is € 649.00 [approx. $752 USD]. Its recommended retail price is € 689.00 [approx. $799 USD]. Both prices exclude VAT (Value Added Tax).
