Description:
Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo’s Amadís de Gaula caused a sensation when it was first published in 1403. The book was an earnest tale of chivalric deeds and gallantry, where the protagonist knight Amadís beat back every challenge that faced him in order to win the love of his childhood sweetheart, the fair-haired Princess Oriana, heir to the English throne. By penning the work, Montalvo perfected the story, which had circulated in the oral tradition for nearly 200 years. The book would remain a major work until Cervantes pilloried it The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha (1605).
From 2006-2010, to honor the book’s heroine, the Perth Mint has produced a collectible one-ounce bar struck in .9999 fine gold. This bar was produced primarily for domestic customers and is seldom seen outside of Australia. In 2015, the Perth Mint and APMEX teamed up to reintroduce the classic design as an APMEXclusive® release.
Each bar is packaged in a secure serial-numbered assay card.
