5 Lari - Georgia 2017 Issue

By National Bank of Georgia ……
On September 1, throughout the whole territory of the nation of Georgia, renovated banknotes of 5 GEL were entered into circulation, where they will circulate alongside the older issues of banknotes.

Executive Director of National Bank of Georgia, Giorgi Melashvili, invited media representatives to the National Bank’s Cash Center and provided detailed information about the updated 5 Lari banknotes.

The original title is maintained on the 5-lari nominal banknote: the front side – the Iveri Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the different portrait of Ivane Javakhishvili with improved relief and volume. On the back side of the banknote – the reverse depicting Niko Pirosmani’s paintings – “Fisherman’s Red Shirt” and “Kahlo”. Also, the state emblem of Georgia.

The renewed banknotes of the Georgian 5 Lari are reserved for the consumer to use easily while at the same time equipped with modern security features. Among them is the identification mark of the nominee for the visually impaired. Lari revised banknotes are manufactured using materials and protective mechanisms that increase resistance in their circulation to pollution and natural degradation.

We remind you that the renewed banknotes of GEL 20 and 50 GEL are in circulation since February 1, 2016 and renewed banknotes of the 100 GEL nominal are in circulation since November 1, 2016.

As for the renewed 10 Lari banknotes, they will be released at a later date.
