Heritage is excited to present their inaugural Hong Kong Auction! This historic event marks the first numismatic foray into Asia and they expect it to be the first of many successful events to come.
Over 1200 numismatic lots are being offered in our two Hong Kong auctions — 800+ coins along with 400+ lots of paper money. These auction events take place in conjunction with the inaugural Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair which is set to quickly become the premier numismatic convention in Hong Kong.
Patterns from the Republic of China are always widely sought, and this sale offers a delightful array of important and rarely seen issues. A “Junk” dollar struck at the Rome mint, featuring the bust of Sun Yat-sen on the obverse, is a prime example, as it illustrates a seldom-seen proposed rendering of this iconic type. This coin is graded MS61 by NGC. Also from the Rome mint comes an L. Giorgi dollar, featuring the bust of Yuan Shih-kai, graded SP62 by PCGS. From the Empire period we offer an incredibly rare pattern Fengtien Dragon dollar struck in aluminum and grading PCGS SP61.
Collectors will certainly recognize two low-mintage five-ounce gold 500 Yuans as the standouts from the People’s Republic of China. A 1996 Unicorn is graded PR69 Ultra Cameo by NGC, while a 2000 Lunar Year of the Dragon piece remains inside its original box with certificate. Both, with mintages in the low 100s, are ideal for the collector seeking a balance of rarity and supreme quality.
The Damkoehler Collection offers a highly specialized arrangement of Tibetan types and varieties, certain to enthrall the specialist. The rare types included in this collection are impressive, and a number of condition rarities are highlighted.
