CoinWeek Coin Designer’s Profile: Jim Licaretz

Jim Licaretz graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and first worked for the United States Mint as a sculptor-engraver from 1986-1989. In 1989, he left the Mint to work as a sculptor for the Franklin Mint. He also served as a master sculptor for toymaker Mattel, Inc.

In 2006, he returned to the Mint and now serves as a medallic sculptor, with more than 10 executed coin designs to his credit. He is a former president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association (AMSA) and is a member of the National Sculpture Society and the Federation International de le Medaille.

In 2008, the American Numismatic Association (ANA) named Licaretz the winner of the Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture (NAAEMS). Licaretz was presented the award on August 2, 2008 at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Baltimore, Maryland.
