The Washington quarter’s iconic Houdin-inspired portrait of America’s first president was the work of sculptor John Flanagan. While Flanagan’s quarter design was his only executed coin design, he did receive several government commissions, including the Department of Agriculture’s World War (I) Memorial, the Rotunda Clock at the Library of Congress, and the Verdun Medal.
