U.S. Mint Announces Product Information for Kennedy Coin & Chronicles Set

By Hubert Walker for CoinWeek ….

In a notice released Tuesday, July 28, the United States Mint has announced product information for the John F. Kennedy Coin & Chronicles Set.

The 2015 Presidential Coin & Chronicles Set – John F. Kennedy (product code AX3) will be available to order on September 15 at a price of $57.95. Production will be limited to a maximum of 50,000 units, and an order limit of two per household is in effect.

Like the Truman Coin & Chronicles Set released earlier this year and the Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set–to be released on August 11–the Kennedy Coin & Chronicles Set includes one Reverse Proof Presidential $1 coin minted in Philadelphia. All Reverse Proof Presidential dollars are, so far, exclusive to their respective Coin & Chronicles sets.

The design is the same as the regular 2015 Kennedy Presidential dollar, with the obverse containing a face-forward portrait of President Kennedy and featuring the inscriptions JOHN F. KENNEDY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 35th PRESIDENT and 1961 – 1963. The common reverse features a portrait of the Statue of Liberty, with the face value of $1 and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircling the design. Edge lettering includes the year 2015, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the P mint mark for Philadelphia.

The Kennedy Coin & Chronicles Set also includes one five-cent postage stamp from 1964 honoring the late president and one 1 5/16″ John F. Kennedy .999 silver medal (also produced in Philadelphia but lacking a mint mark). Kennedy’s portrait adorns the obverse of the medal, along with the inscription JOHN F. KENNEDY. The reverse features an excerpt from the president’s inaugural address , along with INAUGURATED PRESIDENT at the top and the date JANUARY 20, 1961 at the bottom. Between the top inscription and the excerpt is the presidential seal; to the sides of the reverse are torches similar to the one the Statue of Liberty holds.

Coin and medal specifications are provided in the table below.
