John W. Adams is a consummate collector and numismatic scholar, whose focus over many decades of activity has included studies into United States large cents, numismatic pedigrees, U.S. and world medals, and in-depth research into the American numismatic auctions of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
On July 14, 2018, numismatic booksellers Kolbe & Fanning will offer an important section of Adams’ numismatic library at auction. The Adams’ library is noteworthy, not only for its connection to Adams and his research, but also because the Adams collection contains many rare and valuable pieces that have not been seen on the market for decades.
In this episode of the CoinWeek podcast, returning guest David Fanning joins Charles Morgan to discuss the Adams library, why it is so important to the hobby to retain knowledge about the key dealers and major auctions of the past, and what Adams found in these many volumes that changed our understanding of the early days of coin collecting in the United States.
