CoinWeek Cool Coins! returns with our second episode for 2018.
Coin collectors attend the leading national coin conventions in order to secure amazing coins and to find that special item that you just don’t normally see at your local coin shop.
The three dealers featured in this segment have an amazing lineup of coins to show you, starting with a 10th-century silver pfennig from Sweden. This coin was not struck in the typical fashion and ancient coin dealer Phil Jones explains why.
Next up, Seth Chandler of Witter Coins has a four-coin gold U.S. Proof Set from 1898. These are amazing coins, matched for look and quality and feature some of the finest knowns for the date. By our estimation, this is a set worth in excess of half a million dollars.
Finally, we close out Cool Coins! by heading over to the King of Carson City, Selby Ungar, to discuss two ultra high-end Morgan dollars that he has for sale in their original GSA holders.
The fascinating thing about one of them, an examples that grades NGC MS68, is that the GSA did not even consider the coin to be “Uncirculated” due to the toning.
Given the coin’s value on the market today, that lucky collector got a real bargain!
