Over 50 years ago, the first Vegas coin show opened as a gala event featuring show girls prancing with giant golden coins at the now defunct Sahara Hotel. U. S. Mint Director, Eva Adams, presented awards and over 7,000 people attended, including the legendary Sam Boyd. The show is now back on the strip at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, opening Mar 20, but soon, this historic casino and hotel will be destroyed.
Over $50,000,000 worth of rare U. S. and world coins, currency, stamps, collectibles and jewelry will be on display, including the rare 1943 AU50 NGC bronze Lincoln cent valued at $250,000 and offered by the Argent Group of Delaware.
It is said that Henry Ford once offered a brand-new automobile to anyone who could produce a genuine ‘43 copper and an entire generation grew up reading the backs of comic books where unimaginable sums were offered for this rarity.

This 52nd annual exposition is presented by CK Shows for the Las Vegas Numismatic Society who provides scholarships for Nevadan collegiate and numismatic education to the Las Vegas community. The club boasts over 260 members, of which over twenty-five are expected to volunteer their time for show set-up, tear down and registration. Saturday’s counterfeit seminar extends a great opportunity to learn from Michael Faraone, rare coin authentication and varieties specialist. Collectors of all US coins do not want to miss this rare opportunity Faraone has been a professional coin grader for 21 years, working 11 years with ANACS and 10 years with PCGS. In the last ten years he has graded almost a million coins. Faraone was editor of the National Silver Dollar Roundtable for over 20 years and has published articles on varieties and counterfeit detection and is retired air force after serving 20 years This must attend class is set for Saturday, March 21and begins at 12:00 noon. Highfill founded the National Silver Dollar Roundtable and has been a silver dollar specialist for over 40 years. McKechnie added over 200 silver dollar varieties and revisions to the VAM list. Oxman authored Top 100 Morgan Dollar Varieties and four other standard reference works, including the Hot 50 VAMs, the Hit List 40 VAMs. This four star panel is set for Seminar begins at 2 pm on Saturday, March 21. Kids of all ages can learn about coins Saturday from Walt Ostromecki, the president of the American Numismatic Association. Start your numismatic adventure at 10:30am and continue with Treasure Hunt and other activities until 4pm.
ANACS, America’s oldest third party rare coin authentication and certification service, will accept submissions onsite at the show all three days.
Published in conjunction with the event is the fourth volume of the Las Vegas Rare Coin Journal. All editions are available on CK Shows.com articles page. Free hard copies of the full color journal are given to every attendee and comprises four to six articles in each volume, as well as, bourse information and dealer directory.
