Last Time at Riviera: Vegas Rare Coin Show Hosts 200 Dealers, Silver Dollar Panel

Over 50 years ago, the first Vegas coin show opened as a gala event featuring show girls prancing with giant golden coins at the now defunct Sahara Hotel. U. S. Mint Director, Eva Adams, presented awards and over 7,000 people attended, including the legendary Sam Boyd. The show is now back on the strip at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, opening Mar 20, but soon, this historic casino and hotel will be destroyed.

Over $50,000,000 worth of rare U. S. and world coins, currency, stamps, collectibles and jewelry will be on display, including the rare 1943 AU50 NGC bronze Lincoln cent valued at $250,000 and offered by the Argent Group of Delaware.

It is said that Henry Ford once offered a brand-new automobile to anyone who could produce a genuine ‘43 copper and an entire generation grew up reading the backs of comic books where unimaginable sums were offered for this rarity.

Few can say that they have owned one of the most famous rarities in all of coinage. This show represents a rare opportunity to possess a coin that seems to break pricing records every time it appears in the marketplace.

“We are very excited about moving to the Riviera Hotel and Casino last December, but saddened to abruptly lose this legendary venue.  It’s perfectly located for easy access with plenty of parking for locals and easy to navigate the Strip from for out of town visitors and exhibitors.  ” shares Dawn Napolitan, CK Shows.  “This will be the last coin show ever at the Riviera.  The Rat Pack headlined at this casino.  The Las Vegas Strip is where Vegas came to be, the roots of this ‘Coin Town.’  Many people forget that, up until the early 1970s, silver dollars were still being played in these very slot machines, in the “Silver State.”  What a better way to close the book on the Riviera’s storied past than a convention celebrating silver dollars?”

This 52nd annual exposition is presented by CK Shows for the Las Vegas Numismatic Society who provides scholarships for Nevadan collegiate and numismatic education to the Las Vegas community. The club boasts over 260 members, of which over twenty-five are expected to volunteer their time for show set-up, tear down and registration. For more information about coin club meetings and special events, visit CKShows.com club page or call Joe Cavallero, club president at 702-860-6032.

Learn from industry experts, Michael Faraone, John Highfill, C. Logan McKechnie, Jeff Oxman and Mark Witkower at the CK Shows sponsored Saturday seminars.  Attendees will find education on counterfeits and silver dollars.  Seating is limited on all seminars and is complimentary with admission.
