Mike Fuljenz Wins 2026 NLG Award for Market Insight and Consumer Protection
Rare coin and precious metals markets reward knowledge. However, they can also punish mistakes. That makes reliable market information and consumer education increasingly important for collectors and investors.
The Numismatic Literary Guild has recognized that work in 2026.
The NLG named veteran rare coin dealer and consumer advocate Dr. Michael Fuljenz a winner of its Best Investment Newsletter award. Fuljenz founded Universal Coin & Bullion in Beaumont, Texas.
The award honors his free weekly Metals Market Report. The newsletter covers rare coins, gold and silver markets, and consumer protection.
NLG presented the award during the recent American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money in Pittsburgh.
Fuljenz Adds Another Major NLG Honor
The 2026 award continues a decades-long record of recognition for Fuljenz.
Since 1986, he has received more than 60 awards from the Numismatic Literary Guild. His NLG honors cover his writing, broadcasting, newsletters, books, and consumer education work.
Most notably, NLG presented Fuljenz with The Clemy Award in 2013. The organization considers the Clemy its highest honor.
In addition, Fuljenz has received more than a dozen awards from organizations that include the Press Club of Southeast Texas, the American Numismatic Association, and the Professional Numismatists Guild.
The ANA also named Fuljenz its 2021 Dealer of the Year.
More Than Gold and Silver Prices
Fuljenz’s Metals Market Report does more than follow spot prices.
Instead, the newsletter examines the factors that can influence rare coin values and precious metals markets. It also focuses heavily on buyer and seller education.
For example, Fuljenz discusses coin rarity, collector demand, and market pricing. He also examines the forces that can move gold and silver.
However, he argues that market knowledge alone does not adequately protect buyers.
“Knowing the rarity, popularity and price of a rare coin or what is affecting the price trends of gold and silver is only part of the equation,” Fuljenz explained.
Therefore, his newsletter also addresses scams and other risks in the marketplace. It provides guidance on buying and selling. Moreover, Fuljenz discusses coin toning, luster, and proper storage.
Those subjects matter because a collector can understand a coin’s published value and still make an expensive mistake. Problems involving authenticity, misleading sales practices, improper storage, or misunderstood surface characteristics can quickly change the outcome of a transaction.
That consumer-education focus has become a major part of Fuljenz’s work.
Jerry Jordan Also Receives 2026 NLG Award
Fuljenz was not the only Universal Coin & Bullion representative to receive recognition in Pittsburgh.
Jerry Jordan, senior marketing consultant at Universal Coin & Bullion, also earned a 2026 NLG award.
Jordan received the honor for a news story he wrote for COINage Magazine about the 2025 Texas American Innovation $1 Coin.
The Texas dollar honors NASA’s Mission Control at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Its reverse shows an American astronaut conducting a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.
The design represents the Mission Control Center’s economic, logistical, and intellectual support for NASA’s human space program. It also reflects Mission Control’s support for astronauts from nations that participate in the International Space Station program.
The United States Mint released the Texas coin as one of four 2025 issues in the American Innovation $1 Coin Program.
NLG Has Honored Numismatic Journalism Since 1968
The Numismatic Literary Guild dates to 1968.
The nonprofit organization brings together editors, reporters, authors, writers, bloggers, and other content producers who cover numismatics.
Its members report on subjects that include rare coins, paper money, tokens, medals, precious metals, and other forms of money.
Each year, NLG recognizes outstanding work across print, digital, audio, video, and other numismatic media. The organization traditionally presents its awards in conjunction with the ANA World’s Fair of Money.
For collectors, those awards also highlight an important side of the hobby that can sometimes get overlooked. Coins depend on scholarship, reporting, market analysis, and consumer education as much as they depend on mintage figures and grading.
