Numismatic Literary Guild Has Huge Plans For ANA Convention

Numismatic Literary Guild

The Numismatic Literary Guild has big doings planned for the 2016 World’s Fair of Money in Anaheim, California.

As always, Thursday will be NLG Day at the show – the day when the Guild will hold its two major annual events, the NLG Symposium and Bash. This year, that date will be Aug. 11.

At 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, the Guild will host its symposium in room Laguna A of the Hilton Anaheim Hotel. This year’s program will explore “Rare Coin Consumer Protection in the Digital Age.”

The Guild has assembled an all-star panel of experts to discuss this increasingly important subject. The discussion will be moderated by Charles Morgan, partner and editor of CoinWeek.com, the leading online publication devoted to the pursuit of coins and related objects.

Joining Morgan in the program will be Scott A. Travers, a former ANA vice president and author of several award-winning books including The Coin Collector’s Survival Manual, Revised Seventh Edition; Hubert Walker, assistant editor of CoinWeek.com and six-time NLG award winner; Ron Guth, numismatic book author and president of PCGSCoinFacts.com, an online resource with pages for 33,483 coins, and Donn Pearlman, a former ANA governor whose career has spanned over four decades, including 25 years as an award-winning broadcast journalist with CBS in Chicago where he distinguished himself as an anchor and reporter.

At 7:30 Thursday evening, the NLG will stage its Bash and Awards Ceremony, an eagerly awaited high point of ANA conventions for nearly half a century. It will take place beginning at 7:30 PM in room California D of the Hilton Anaheim Hotel. As usual, the Bash will feature a smorgasbord of food, fun and richly deserved recognition. The program will begin with sumptuous hot and cold buffets, as well as assorted desserts, and that will be followed by skits and satirical songs and the presentation of award plaques to winners in the Guild’s yearly Writer’s Competition.

The presentation of the Clemy, the Guild’s highest honor, which is awarded each year to someone who combines exceptional communication skills with dedication to the NLG’s mission of good fellowship and a well-honed sense of humor, will be presented.

The 2016 Bash will include a special segment paying tribute to Chester L. Krause, founder of Krause Publications, who died earlier this year. Chet was a charter member of the NLG.

Joe Boling, who has emceed the Bash portion of NLG night since 2014, will serve in that role again this year, with able support from NLG stalwarts Carlton “Fred” Schwan and Scott Travers.

Admission to the Bash and Awards Ceremony costs $10 per person, and attendance is open to all. Membership in the Guild is not a requirement. The cost of admission can be paid at the ballroom entrance, “California D” of the Hilton Anaheim Hotel, just before the Bash and Awards Ceremony.
