PCGS-Certified Coins in Spotlight At 2013 ANA World’s Fair of Money

Chicago area news media have eagerly done stories about PCGS-certified coins prominently exhibited at the 2013 American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money in suburban Rosemont, Illinois.

The 1792 half disme), graded PCGS MS68 and formerly owned by the first Director of the United States Mint, David Rittenhouse, and the unique set of four 1783 Nova Constellatio patterns  insured for $15 million, have been featured in newspaper and television stories.

The news media coverage began during dealer set-up on Monday, August 12, 2013, when Beverly Hills, California dealer Kevin Lipton, representing the anonymous owner of the Nova Constellatio set, was interviewed by the Chicago Daily Herald for a story in the August 13 edition of the print and online versions of the newspaper.

On Wednesday, August 14, PCGS Co-Founder and Collectors Universe President David Hall, was interviewed on the popular “WGN-TV Morning Show” program where he showed the four coins.  Reporter Ana Belaval happily had the opportunity to hold the most valuable of the four, the unique silver 1000 Units (“Mark”), graded PCGS PR65+.

hall_newsIn a later show-and-tell segment, Belaval talked with ANA Curator Doug Mudd about the 1792 half disme that is a featured exhibit in the Museum Showcase area on the convention floor.   The half disme was also shown in a story about the World’s Fair of Money on the “Chicago Tonight” newscast on WTTW-TV.

“The Nova Constellatio coins arguably are the first patterns for a United States coinage system, and this set of four is one of the great treasures of United States numismatics.  The 1792 half disme is the first coin authorized by President George Washington.  We are grateful that the owners of these fabulous coins agreed to provide them for educational displays at the World’s Fair of Money. Thousands of people are able to see them in person,” said Hall.

Since its founding in 1986, PCGS experts have certified over 26 million coins with a total market value of over $27 billion.  PCGS represents the industry standard in third-party certification.
