Among the rare U.S. coins offered by GreatCollections this Sunday is a 1890 Morgan Silver Dollar graded Proof 69★ Ultra Cameo by NGC. This stunning coin is the single-finest example of the issue that the grading company has certified.

The 1890 Morgan Dollar is not an issue that usually comes nice – never mind Proof 69. By that time in Morgan Dollar production, the hubs used to strike the silver dollar had worn out considerably, with 1890 being a particularly bad year for the Philadelphia Mint. The business-strike came with weak luster and was heavily bag marked but thankfully that was not a problem when it came to the 1890 Morgan Proof specimen in Sunday’s auction.

Examples of lower grade (PF68+) have sold for over $300,000 in recent years. At the time of publication, the starting bid in GreatCollection’s upcoming auction of the top pop PF69★ UCAM 1890 Morgan Dollar Proof is $275,000.
