The contribution and efforts of nurses are being recognized through the Royal Australian Mint’s special release of a triangular commemorative collectible silver coin ahead of Friday’s International Nurses Day.
Featuring the spectacular stained glass artwork created by Napier Waller at the Australian War Memorial, this triangular coin reflects on the tireless devotion of service nurses.
Mint CEO Ross MacDiarmid said that while this coin is particularly focused on the critical role nurses have played in Australian military history, the Mint is taking the opportunity to spread the awareness of the contribution all nurses make to our lives and society.
“As we continue to commemorate the Anzac Centenary we thought it important to look beyond the battlefields and recognize those that played an important role in caring for the sick and wounded during those times,” said Mr. MacDiarmid.
“This coin release also allows us to share a broader message at this time of International Nurses Day to remind everyone of the work that nurses do all around the world with such courage and dedication.”
Mr. MacDiarmid will be attending an International Nurses Day breakfast at the Australian College of Nursing on Friday morning to celebrate nurses in Canberra.
The Mint also donated two coins to be awarded this evening at the ACT Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards in recognition of outstanding efforts.
International Nurses Day is held every year on 12 May with the 2017 theme focused on “Nurses: A Voice to Lead, Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”. To find out more please visit www.icn.ch.
